What Conditions Can A Chiropractor Treat For Children?

Chiropractic treatment has traditionally been provided for adults. However, many people are unaware of how beneficial chiropractic care can actually be for younger patients as well. Chiropractors often treat children for many of the common health issues that are normally treated with prescription medications. These are some of the health conditions chiropractors can treat for children.

Problems With The Ears

Many people suffer from chronic ear problems from the time they are infants until they are young adults. This is often caused due to a misalignment of the vertebrae in the neck during birth. When this occurs it can lead to ear pain, excessive fluid in the ears and chronic ear infections because the Eustachian tube is affected by the disruption of the nerve functions in the ears.

However, by properly aligning the vertebrae in the neck, the pressure is taken away from the nerves and the Eustachian tube so that the ears can drain properly. Taking a child with ear problems to a chiropractor may allow parents to avoid having artificial tubes surgically implanted into their child's ears.

Asthma

Asthma is commonly caused by being exposed to airborne allergens and pollutants. However, it can also be triggered by stress and poor posture. When a child suffers from poor posture this puts unnecessary pressure on the his vital organs and the nerves throughout the body. This makes normal breathing more difficult and causes asthma attacks to occur at any time.

With the proper manipulations to the spine, many young patients no longer suffer from asthma symptoms. With regular chiropractic treatments, many children have found their asthma attacks have decreased substantially and some no longer need medications for this condition.

Hyperactivity

Hyperactivity in children is commonly diagnosed as Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder. Many physicians believe this is caused by a chemical imbalance in the brain that can only be treated with medication and counseling. However, some chiropractors believe that this is caused by an imbalance in muscle tone that causes an imbalance in brain activity.

It is also believed by chiropractors that hyperactivity is caused by a misalignment of the skull that causes unequal pressure on the brain. By regular treatments of chiropractic manipulations to improve muscle tone and properly align the skull, some children no longer suffer from hyperactivity.

Growing Pains

Studies have shown that 25-40% of all children suffer from an unexplained condition known as growing pains. The symptoms involve feeling deep pain in the thighs, knees or calves frequently. This often occurs at night and may even disturb sleep on occasion.

Many chiropractors believe that growing pains are caused by excessive stress to the nervous system. This often occurs when children are very physically active and vigorously jump, run and twist on a regular basis. By doing the proper chiropractic adjustments on a child with growing pains, the stress on the nervous system is decreased, muscles become more relaxed and the pain is relieved.

If your child suffers from any of these conditions, it is a good idea to consult a chiropractor. Treatment may be possible that is much less invasive and prescription medications may not be necessary.
